Successful people never miss this meal
And now you don’t have to either!
Did you know the word Breakfast originated because it represents the action of breaking the overnight fasting period!?!
Breakfast is considered such an important meal because it replenishes our supply of glucose and provides other essential nutrients to keep our energy levels up throughout the day.
Without breakfast you are effectively running on empty, like trying to start the car without any fuel in it!
Nutritionists advise that:
- breakfast should be eaten within two hours of waking, and
- a healthy breakfast should provide calories in the range of 20-35% of your guideline daily allowance (GDA).
In addition to providing us with energy, breakfast foods and snacks provide sources of important nutrients including; B vitamins, iron, calcium, protein and fibre. The body needs these essential nutrients and research shows that if these are missed at breakfast, they are less likely to be compensated for later in the day.
Fruit and vegetables are good sources of vitamins and minerals, so try to include a portion of your daily two and five at breakfast, whether that be a banana or glass of fruit juice.
Research also shows that breakfast is good for the waistline too. As a metabolism kickstarter, those who eat breakfast are less likely to be overweight and more likely to be within their ideal weight range compared with breakfast skippers. If you skip breakfast, you’re more likely to reach for high sugar and fatty snacks around mid-morning.
